At the dentist without pain – Discover how
More and more patients require the insertion of one or more dental implants each year (patients who have lost all their teeth and prefer not to use removable prostheses).
The insertion of a dental implant (a biocompatible titanium screw inserted into the jaw bone) is a delicate operation, which must be performed with a millimeter precision. One of the goals of implant dentistry was the improvement of this procedure.
Today a new technology has appeared in the field of dental implantology: computer-guided implantology, which allows computer-aided design (using the CAD program) and implant positioning thanks to the computerized tomography.
All of this allows the dentist to position the implants in the exact points planned on the computer. Not only that, but the dentist, thanks to the computer-generated 3D images will be able to evaluate bone density and to choose the size of the implant that should be placed.
The computer guided implantology allows to our dental team to operate in total security for the patient, thanks to the precision given by the 3D stimulation of intervention.
Conscious sedation
Conscious sedation is a combination of drugs that help the patient relax during the dental procedure and stop the pain. During the dental procedure the patient is awake, in fact he is conscious, but he will not notice the surgery.
The advantages of conscious sedation
- It does not entail any pain for the patient, nor the memory of the sustained intervention.
- It has no contraindications, so it is suitable for all types of patients and for any dental treatment.
- It is especially indicated for children, who more often than adults are prey of fear and anxiety.
- It allows a rapid intervention: this deep state of relaxation allows our dental team to operate in total comfort and safety, thus reducing the time required for surgery.
- Immediate return to social life: at the end of the intervention the effect of sedation will disappear and, while remaining awake for the entire duration of the treatment, you will not remember anything.
How does conscious sedation work?
Conscious sedation is intravenously: the dentist injects into a vein a quick-release pharmacological solution based on anxiolytics and sedatives. This allows the patient to relax completely and also quickly. Anxiety and fear will disappear and the patient will feel a pleasant sensation of well-being and safety.
Thanks to conscious sedation, the patient can leave the clinic immediately after the operation, in normal psycho-physical conditions, as before taking the pharmacological solution.
When is conscious sedation recommended?
It is especially indicated for anxious patients, who have always been afraid of the dentist and from the pain of dental treatments.
But sedation it is also applicable to special patients, such as disabled persons, people with Down syndrome, children and in general for all those patients who prefer to seek treatment in total relaxation.
General Anesthesia
Total anesthesia is indicated for long procedures such as extractions, dental implants, and bone reconstruction. It allows to intervene on the patient’s problem in a single session.
The advantages of general anesthesia
- Farewell to the fear of the dentist: you will finally have a new smile without pain and discomfort.
- Reduced intervention times: same speech as for the conscious sedation. With total anesthesia, the medical team will be able to work more calmly, because the patient is deeply asleep.
- Ideal for long and complex operations (such as root canals, numerous extractions, etc.): they usually require several sessions, but thanks to total anesthesia the dentist can perform dental treatments in a single session.
The advantages of dental implantology under general anesthesia
- No pain or discomfort: for the entire duration of the operation the patient will sleep, not even feeling the slightest discomfort.
- Reduced intervention times: since it is possible to insert the dental implant or several implants in a single session, the times are reduced.
- Immediate healing: a few days after surgery you can return to Italy, regardless of the type of surgery performed.
- Maximum safety: our medical team will carry out the operations always accompanied by a specialized anesthesiologists.
When is total anesthesia required?
- Special patients: suffering from Parkinson’s disease, Tourette’s syndrome, hyperreflexia. Patients of this type do not have a complete control of body movements (they will therefore not be able to keep their mouth open during surgery or to remain firm).
- Seriously dental phobic patients: with panic attacks and terror of the dentist, with whom conscious sedation has not given satisfactory results or was not possible.
- When local anesthesia is impossible, as for cardiac patients, or who have undergone a liver transplantation, or with metabolic problems, oncological pathologies, disabilities, etc.
